Making habits stick with Pushing Ahead Norfolk

We love to bring you stories from BetterPoints users who are using the app to make positive changes to their lives and earning rewards. Recently I spoke to Hannah who is in the ‘Pushing Ahead’ challenge.

Here is what she said about discovering BetterPoints and the positive impact it's had on her health and well-being:

"I started using BetterPoints when the Pushing Ahead challenge launched at work. I needed some extra encouragement to do more than my regular walk to and from work, so I thought it would be interesting to get involved.

Being part of a challenge definitely brought out my competitive side which has helped me to be more active than previously. I also enjoyed being able to track my activities to see how what I was doing compared to others locally.

Myself and my husband started to go out for evening walks and bike rides rather than staying at home on the sofa. This not only helped our health but also made us appreciate what you can do in an evening after work if you get up and out. We especially enjoyed the summer this year as we'd created good habits and spent several weekends out and about on our bikes. The extra cycling also increased my confidence on the bike so I've been happier to go out further and use busier roads. I even managed a bike ride on my own whilst my husband was away - this was a big achievement for me as I've always felt quite nervous on the roads alone.

I've tried running on and off over the last few year.  Again BetterPoints encouraged me to make this more of a regular habit. The app helped to track my progress which encouraged me to push myself more and more over the weeks as I felt myself getting fitter and stronger.

Being able to collect points to put towards vouchers just by being active has been an additional bonus of using BetterPoints. I have recently moved to a new house and have used my vouchers to contribute towards the cost of new curtains for my bedroom.

I think BetterPoints is a great incentive to get active. I do feel that anyone who does get involved would benefit from being more active with the incentives that are on offer." - Hannah B from Norfolk
